2 Select a Charter Yacht

What your Broker needs to begin:
  • How many adults, how many children, and what size bed will suit each? (You don’t want to find out when you come aboard that the cabin your Parents will sleep in has bunk beds!)
• What area are you hoping to cruise?
• How long will the trip be?
• What month or dates would you like to charter?

Search the Database:
Your Broker will search the databases, compare the available yachts to your tastes and preferences, and present to you the best yachts within your budget, either via on-line links or high quality paper brochures, whichever you prefer.

Narrow the List:
To decide on which yachts to have your Broker inquire about, consider the following:
  • Age/Condition of the yacht, and the date most recently refurbished – shows décor and technology likely on board

• Make/Builder of the yacht – shows quality of craftsmanship and reliability of machinery

• Price per week – your Provisions and Expenses (APA) on top of the charter fee will run between 30% - 50% of the charter fee, so don’t spend your whole budget on the yacht itself

• Fuel Consumption – fast running yachts vs. slower yachts, and anchoring out vs. tying up at the dock both are considerations which can make a big difference in the amount you spend on fuel for your itinerary and for your generator power

• Crew Profiles and Testimonials – these will give you a good indication of how much experienced the crew have, and how proficient they will be at anticipating your needs, providing exemplary service, and showing you the ultimate charter experience.

Confirm Availability:
With this short list, your Broker will contact each yacht owners’ Central Agent, to confirm exact terms and availability. He/She will then report back to you which yachts have been confirmed available, and will offer advice to help you choose the best for your group.
